Our School opened its original site in 1861.
At Picton Primary School we focus on the development of each child by providing them with opportunities to strive to achieve their potential in a caring, supportive, and safe environment.
We believe that every child can achieve their potential, but to do so, children need to feel safe, attend regularly and be actively engaged in their learning. Our vision is to enhance our already positive school culture and improve the prerequisites and enablers of learning to maximise student achievement.
We want to create responsible students who show respect and strive for success to achieve their full potential.

Love to Learn is the school motto and a unique graphic has been developed to highlight it when in use. In its simplest form its meaning is obvious, suggesting a love of learning is encouraged in the school. But it also has a second meaning that is inspired by what the Happy Tree offers to students. Being a place of safety and comradeship, the Happy Tree reflects the values regarding creating a caring environment.
The original school for the Glen Iris district was located on land donated by local millowner and early settler, William Forrest. Some of the Forrest children received early education here. The school represented the growth of the district and the need to provide an education for settlers’ children. The school opened at the original site in 1861.
